Using percentage values for certain things can have slightly unexpected results in WebKit based browsers. For instance, if you have a series of columns set in percentage widths with percentage padding, WebKit can calculate their sizing rather strangely. The red lines indicate the column as rendered with WebKit

Day 2 of the UX Australia conference was packed full of excellent presentations, and after a bunch of encouraging comments from folks who saw my sketches from yesterday, I drew some more for today’s sessions. Rather than rely on my phone camera, this time I scanned today’s sketches to ensure that the images are of a higher quality.

Conqueror papers are launching a paper range and as part of the promotion, manufacturer Arjowiggins has commissioned five new typefaces which they are making available for free download to us lucky designers. The typefaces have been design by French typographer Jean Francois Porchez of Typofonderie .

I recently watched the movie Anvil – The Story Of Anvil , which is undoubtedly one of the most feel good films I’ve seen in years. I should admit at this point that I have no interest whatsoever in Heavy Metal but I was intrigued enough by the movie to go and have a look at some of the “greats” that feature in the documentary and thus a blog post was born. I’m usually not interested in slagging off websites but for such huge money making machines, many of the monsters of rock have pretty ugly and dated looking sites

I received an email this week that ShareThis , a social media sharing widget, is rolling out two new aspects of their standard sharing functions, Social Reach and Audience Index, to increase users’ insight into the value and reach of their shared content. What’s New with ShareThis? Social Reach is the combination of the ShareThis buttons you may already know with counters.

From today, you may be lucky enough to notice a new “Call Phone” option in your Chat box… Unlike the existing GMail voice and video chat system, Call Phone allows you to call a standard land-line telephone — the recipient doesn’t need to be logged on or even have a PC.
