Macworld has a really nice introduction to using Color Picker, the built-in Mac utility that lets you choose colors for use in almost any Cocoa app. If you’ve never used Color Picker before, you can bring it up in any supported application by hitting Cmd-Shift-C

Web site ConvertIcon quickly converts a PNG into an ICO (icon) file online, then lets you download the results. This is a great tool to have bookmarked, especially if you’re at all interested in creating custom icons for you desktop
